Supra Footwear Celebrates 10 Years With The Unveiling Of The Skytop V
Having been around for a decade, the world-renowned skateboard company Supra has been able to withstand the test of time with cutting edge footwear, apparel & a lifestyle that exemplifies our current generation.
I remember when I first got a glimpse of Supra, thanks to Young Hov appearing on the "Umbrella" video alongside Rihanna sporting an all-gold pair of Supra Skytop sneakers. Immediately I was hooked, and did my research. From the Skytop, to the Vaider, to the Supra NS collection, in which I'm still hoping to come across a pair of the all-strap Supra from that pack, the high-to-the-sky TK Society, the signature sneaker of socialite Terry Kennedy and fast forward to today, as Chad Muska delivers the next franchise player in the Skytop family.
Behold, the Supra Skytop V:
The Skytop line has been the pinnacle of the Supra brand since the first model dropped back in 2007. Going through many variations, and literal 'highs and lows', the current model is a total evolution of Muska's style, innovation and a collective of where he sees himself in street culture.
Created with the help of Supra's lead designer Adam Contreras, the heritage of every Skytop model is incorporated into the Skytop V. From the high-top Skytop I, to the mega-high II, then a drastic cut in the 3rd version, Muska explains that there are subtle elements from each model hidden within the build of the latest sneaker. Most notably a rubber cage and height similar to the Skytop III. Though my personal favorite out of the bunch is the IV, as it is Muska's fav, I'm taking quite the liking to the 5th one.
If you actually plan to put these to work doing ollies, grinds, and flicks, this model does come fitted with a neoprene felt bootie construction which provides support, comfort and flexibility. It also comes with an abrasion-resistant TUF coated Lycra for maximum durability, relatable to the feel of a high top Air Presto. When describing the process of making this, Muska states:
"You have to understand the way sneakers are made in order to master the design process. If you don't understand how these things are produced, then you're going to go in there with unrealistic expectations. You could be arguing about something that might not even be possible to make. The more you know about the technology employed in manufacturing, the more you'll be able to apply it to achieving your vision."
This model is simply amazing. It is a skater's sneaker, yet it goes completely against the usual traditions of a vulcanized cup sole and regular toe box, going for an aesthetic that delivers style and substance as only Supra can.
Look for these to drop in all tonal versions, an all-white, as shown, and an all-black version later on this month. February 16th to be exact. For now, enjoy these beautiful shots:
