The Future Is Near
Yesterday, we posted on our Instagram, (which you SHOULD be following if you're not already), @bigfeetfootwork, a picture of Olympic Gold Medalist Laura Trott on adidas' Snapchat holding up a nice looking shoe.
Check out our Instagram for the post.
What looked to be an all-black Ultra Boost turned out to be something that the Trefoil has been cooking up in the lab for awhile, but has kept under wraps...until now.
Introducing the adidas Futurecraft.
Yes...ain't it a beaut?!
But, this sneaker isn't like any other adidas has created. Yes, it looks like an Ultra Boost, however the structure of this shoe from top to bottom is totally new.
The Futurecraft is the first 3D engineered, 3D printed sneaker that will be available for mass production. Yes, that's right...a 3D printed shoe. Oh my goodness!
The particular model given to Olympians in Rio, includes a 3D printed heel counter & a 3D printed, highly breathable Primeknit upper. With this technique, there is no need to glue or stitch anything together.
The Rio version, aptly named the 3D Printed Winners Shoe, is approved for long distance running of up to 10KM. And, to add a nice touch, laces on the all-black model come in three colors; respectively, bronze, silver & gold.
Unfortunately, there is no public release date...as of yet. Never say never in the world of sneakers...especially the way Wex & Co. are handling things this year.
As if this isn't enough...the Three Stripes will be opening what will be known as "Speedfactory" in 2017, a factory that will produced 50K of these yearly...of course with expectations for that to increase. It will be housed in Atlanta, GA. (And that ain't far from here!)
Keep it up adidas. The future is indeed near...and pretty much now.
